Dead Beat Instruments is an Edmonton based instrument manufacturer specializing in unique hand crafted drums, guitars and more. With a focus on bringing the natural beauty and tone out of only locally sourced Canadian hardwoods.

Our journey began with a single stave snare drum, built as an experiment with a father and son duo. From there, full drum sets emerged, and soon many snare drums would make their way to our client’s hands. The experiment continued with guitars, and our curiosity and creative spark drives us to this day.

A Reverence For Wood

We believe that each tree tells a story, and we want to hear that story sung loudly in the instruments we craft. That’s why we feel that just as each grain tells a story of that tree’s life, the instrument’s vibrancy and one-of-a-kind features should speak to it’s character.

This is why we made the decision to only use locally sourced Canadian hardwoods, and only from local arborists who collect the raw lumber. We want to get as close to the story of our great Canadian trees as possible, to get as far removed from industrial processes and as close to the story of this land that we love as we can.
